Reflection 5

Hmmm…another week, another same old story…

To start off, we have now moved on to a more challenging stage which is writing a critical response. In this chapter, we covered an article which is called “Invasion of the body snatchers”.

This article tells about the increasing number of children who are abducted and not to be found yet. The media has played a great role in exaggerating these kinds of stories. However, it seemed that many people have ignored the neglected children who should also be a main priority.

In a nutshell, writing a critical response still involve the 10 areas that we have studied before. The only difference is that it is not written in points form. Plus. the length is also greater compared to previous tasks.

Reflection 4

Hello again…

This week, Hasrul and Amin were responsible of the presentation. They delivered an interesting presentation on the topic “Australia’s methadone madness”. Interestingly, they also distributed some handouts which made the presentation even better.

The topic concerned on the act by Australia’s Government endorsement of a narcotic meant to help heroin addicts is, in fact, condemning many to a life of misery and even death.

From this chapter, I’ve understood that impact on audience is very important so that the writer is able to convey his or her message well.

That’s all for now…

Daa….

Reflection 3

This week, we were exposed on “argument & evidence”. In this chapter, the lecturer has asked us read on the article entitled “Burning out at Nine” by Nadya Labi.

This article talks about a new study that suggests kids are overscheduled, overworked ~ and running out of time. In this article, the writer includes statistics and research results in order to support her arguments. From what I understand, the evidences that have been included are valid and reliable. Thus, it is easier to understand and accept the arguments stated.

In addition, I’ve also learnt that as a reader, I need to be critical of the evidence in every reading material so that I will not be blinded by words.

That’s all for now…

Daa….
